Forbes Advisor: 37 Percent of Remote Workers Tracked by Their Employers

Forbes Advisor noted in a recent report that, in 2024, approximately 43 percent of employees were monitored by their employers, leading to an increase in reliance on VPNs and other digital privacy tools. Unsurprisingly, about 33 percent had this form of spying brought up during their performance reviews.

Of those being tracked, hybrid (48 percent) and remote (37 percent) workers were among the most-commonly watched, with 68 percent of those surveyed admitting they’d be embarrassed by what their employer finds.

A further 39 percent indicated that this surveillance has a negative impact on how they view their workplace, and 43 percent noting it is detrimental to company morale.Additionally, 18 percent felt stress and anxiety, while 16 percent found themselves taking fewer breaks.

In addition, 27 percent revealed they would probably leave their position if their online activity were tracked.

Forbes Advisor also revealed that about 25 percent of employees faked being online while performing non-work tasks, while 11 percent use anti-surveillance software and nine percent attempt to deceive the monitoring process.
