Verizon Expands Software-Defined Interconnect Service

Verizon Business is expanding its Software-Defined Interconnect offering for connecting MPLS (multi-protocol label switching) and Ethernet private networking services to cloud, infrastructure and service providers with automated, “same-day” connectivity.

Software-Defined Interconnect, which is part of Verizon’s Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) strategy, comes via a collaboration with digital infrastructure company Equinix.

The release supports rapid network services activation, lowered access cost and increased networking agility. Verizon also noted that the scalable, programmable platform allows users to take advantage of technology that is built on 5G – including real-time data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) – to enhance security, augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR).

The update is part of a recent investment in “agile” services, allowing users to leverage Verizon’s high-speed network and Equinix Fabric to enhance connectivity to Verizon MPLS and Ethernet customers, worldwide.
