Axio Appoints Industry Vets to Accelerate Global Growth

Axio, a leader in cyber risk management software, announced three key additions to support rapid customer adoption and significant global growth.

Former President and CEO of Ecopetrol, Felipe Bayón (pictured) joins as a special advisor to help bolster the company’s leadership position in the energy, manufacturing and infrastructure industries, specifically emerging markets.

Additionally, the company announced Peter Armstrong joins as Senior Vice President (SVP) Risk Engineering and Risk Capital to help build out Axio’s collaboration with the cyber insurance industry.

And, Alfredo Narez joins as SVP, Head of Marketing to elevate Axio’s brand awareness, outbound efforts, and drive the company’s go-to-market strategy.

Bayón is the former CEO of Ecopetrol Group, Colombia’s leading energy company, and one of the most important in the Americas. He has more than 30 years of experience in the energy industry.

In his seven-plus years at Ecopetrol, five as CEO, he led the company’s transformation and energy transition processes with a plan to diversify the business and decarbonize the operation through, among others, renewables, electrification, natural climate solutions, and hydrogen. All these were underpinned by innovation and technology as catalyzers for sustainability, what Ecopetrol has called T-ESG (Technology, Environmental, Social and Governance).

The transformation process allowed Ecopetrol to address and overcome the complex global context, achieving solid operational and financial performance, key to strengthening Ecopetrol as the company faces the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition.

Armstrong has decades of experience in defense, intelligence and security, Armstrong is an expert in the management of cyber risk and cyber security and a self-professed cyber and risk management geek.

Prior to joining Axio, Armstrong was the senior cyber subject matter expert at Munich Re Group. Previously he led the Willis Cyber risk consulting business, where he focused on the quantification and management of cyber exposure in the risk portfolios of large organizations. He has served on the Advisen Cyber Security Conference Advisory Board and is a leading thinker in developing responses to the cyber challenges facing large, complex organizations.

Narez is a seasoned executive, startup expert and thought leader in the fields of digital innovation and growth marketing. With a passion for designing, building, and marketing, Narez has dedicated his career to helping organizations unleash their creative potential and drive meaningful change.

As Founder of m1six and Coach with Google for Startups, Narez guided numerous companies through innovation initiatives, helping them identify market needs, prototype ideas, and transform them into successful products.

With a deep understanding of customer empathy and the importance of business design, Narez emphasizes the power of connecting with customers on a profound level to create exceptional experiences.

The news of the three hires comes on the heels of Axio’s participation in Lloyd’s Lab Cohort 10. Axio was one of 13 InsureTech companies selected out of 200 following a competitive pitch process in front of an expert panel of Lloyd’s and market stakeholders participants.

Axio was invited to join based on its concept centered around helping the Lloyd’s market effectively understand cyber-physical damage risk and offer sustainable coverage solutions for this exposure.

Throughout the 10-week program, Axio will develop its products with the support of market experts and explore how its innovation can support Lloyd’s market.
