Murena to Launch Workspace as Office365 Rival

Murena, a company focused on privacy-focused, open-source and sustainable technology, announced that it reached its funding target of €400,000, hitting €786,398 ($851,818) from 545 investors in less than 24 hours. The funds, which were raised through an equity crowdfunding campaign open to UK and European citizens, will be used to accelerate Murena’s growth, enhance R&D and expand its product offerings.

A priority development on the roadmap, highly requested by Murena’s community, is an expansion of its existing Murena Workspace for businesses, which offers an alternative to Office365. Murena Workspace comprises a privacy-focused ecosystem suite of tools that are powered by open-source software. New features to be developed for the B2B offering by the end of 2024 include custom domain support, productivity and collaboration features.

Additional R&D will be conducted by Murena to improve its mobile device management (MDM) for businesses and its /e/OS mobile operating system.

“Significantly exceeding our funding target so quickly demonstrates the need and appetite for digital freedom,” said CEO, Gael Duval. “Our mission is to educate and empower users to take back control of their personal data. This round of funding allows us to act on our community’s requests and expand our offering further, providing more choice in a market dominated by Big Tech, data-hungry corporations. User-friendliness is a priority for us; we want to ensure our privacy-focused solutions are accessible to everyone, not just those with a certain level of technical expertise.”

The /e/OS Android operating system, developed and founded by Duval and pre-installed on all Murena smartphones, currently has 45,000 active users, while Murena Workspace has 128,000 active accounts.
