THE BEST CANDIDATE FOR THE JOB ISN’T ALWAYS THE TYPICAL CANDIDATE. LEARN HOW TO FIND, TRAIN AND CULTIVATE A GREAT POOL OF UNTAPPED TALENT. ACLYUPP4006_Mag_HalfPgHrz_v1b.indd 3 8/28/14 10:44 AM Collaboration – Even if team members can’t work together in one facility, they still need to collaborate to produce a quality product. Communication and file sharing are vital; however, these processes can be slow without the right software, and projects can get off track without visibility and management. Collaboration solutions specifically developed for video production teams can close these gaps. These tools allow teams to leave feedback on the video or work together in real time. They also can help to streamline workflows and manage assets. Teams may also benefit from using communications and collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams or Google Workspace that support messaging, emails and document creation – and backing up that data so that it’s recoverable and accessible throughout a project and at any point in the future. Loss – Another challenge is IT-related, but it has less to do with technology and more to do with human nature. People who carry laptops or other mobile devices can drop them, break them and lose them, leading to financial losses. Laptops and mobile devices used on location can also be targeted for theft. While no one wants the cost or inconvenience of replacing devices, it’s not the biggest loss that lost, stolen or damaged devices create, however. The software loaded on the device is often worth many multiples of the cost of a laptop. An effective solution is to use USB dongle servers available over your network. These servers allow you to load the licenses for copyprotected software on the network and access them remotely. Team members then use their license as if the dongle were connected directly to the computer – and if the laptop or device is lost, the license is still protected on company premises. Solving challenges created by transitioning to remote video production during the pandemic has been necessary to stay in business. However, it also has a somewhat unintended benefit: It proved that remote video production is a viable alternative to working solely in a studio. As teams return to production facilities, the new technologies they deployed, such as security solutions and dongle servers, and new collaborative processes and workflows, can continue to provide value. Teams can now choose the best way to work during each facet of a project to maximize speed, cost-effectiveness and productivity while ensuring the finished product will be high-quality video.
